The San Jose Sharks’ comeback against the Boston Bruins fell short today, with the team falling 4-3 and picking up their first loss of the season.

The Sharks went down early, which didn’t help, as Brad Marchand opened the scoring under 30 seconds in. Under two minutes later it was already 2-0, as Derek Forbort beat Adin Hill with a wrist shot from the top of the zone that Hill really should have had.

David Pastrnak would increase the lead to 3-0 with a power play goal late in the frame, but Jasper Weatherby picked up his second goal of the season on a pretty harmless shot that found its way through Linus Ullmark. It wasn’t necessarily a terrible period for the Sharks overall but going down early really hurt them.

In the second period, the Bruins extended their lead back to three goals off a goal from Jake DeBrusk, then really shut down San Jose’s offense, limiting them to just five shots in the frame. Adin Hill was pulled after the fourth goal, stopping just 10 of 14 shots.

James Reimer was great for the Sharks after that and the team did have success getting traffic to the net, scoring two goals and getting other chances as well, but that’s as close as they would come.

In terms of this season, this may have been the Sharks’ worst performance, given they didn’t really come alive until pretty late in the game and didn’t generate a ton of quality chances. Adin Hill also had a rough game but in all fairness, Linus Ullmark was far from great as well.

That said, the Sharks were facing a good team on the road in their third game in about three and a half days. They pulled back at the end and made a game out of it.

The Sharks will be back in action in Nashville on Tuesday, before kicking off a five-game homestand against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
