Rangers kick off six-game preseason vs. Isles at MSG tonight

The Rangers kick off the Gerard Gallant era and 2021-22 campaign with their first pre-season game of the season tonight against the Isles at MSG. As we have seen from Gallant's press conferences to date, he is a straight shooter who will provide clear responses without revealing much. He clearly won't be coddling the players, nor will he attempt to be their friends, but he will provide guidance to them. Gallant won't be texting the players or managing them off-hours, but he will be overseeing all - assisted by the other coaches and GM Chris Drury - when in the building or messages need to be sent.

Mika Zibanejad indicated that the two sides - his agents and the Rangers - are talking contract. Whether anything gets done remains unknown. Both sides will likely need to bend, Zib on the dollars, down not up, and the Rangers on potentially the years or money. If the two sides reach an agreement on a seven year deal in the $60 or so million range - my proposal, nothing concrete - would that be viewed as acceptable to the masses here or an overpayment on either years or dollars or both?

In terms of the lineup:
- The expected second line of Panarin-Strome-Kakko not dressing tonight, look for them Tuesday vs. Boston.
- Morgan Barron getting a chance to center the third line, as he tries to make the team out of training camp.
- Looking forward to seeing Dryden Hunt
- Karl Henriksson on the wing, not at center, which is usual position.
- Will Cuylle aims to carry forward his strong development camp performance to try and force his way onto the roster- Jacob Trouba-K'Andre Miller with the night off as well.
- First look at the Patrick Nemeth-Nils Lundkvist pairing.
- Igor Shesterkin in the press box tonight. Like the others sitting tonight, look for him likely play Tuesday.

Rangers trim roster by 13 down to 47, no major shocks on the cut list:
