Frolunda lost 4-2 to Leksand earlier today. The group tried to make a comeback in the third as they were down 4-0, but it just didn’t happen.

Simon Edvinsson saw his ice time back up to 20:08 (up from 15:59 the previous week). The 18 year old first rounder now sits third on the team in points with 3 assists in 4 games. He was a -2 today, and overall sits as a plus 1. So far for the season. Now standing somewhere around 6’6” (listed around 6’4” when he was drafted) Edvinsson looks confident more often than not.

You may have missed it during the prospects camp, but it was revealed that Dallas had Edvinsson as #1 on their internal list for the draft. I know there were some early apprehensions (and will be for a little while) but I was thrilled with the pick. I was certain that Anaheim was going to grab him at 3, but seeing him drop to 6 was a huge shock. I’d written a few pre draft articles about Edvinsson and some of the early praise he was getting. I was so sure he’d be gone by 6 that I said, “don’t get attached”. Draft day this year was like Christmas for me when Yzerman called his name. Time will tell if that enthusiasm was misplaced. So far I feel pretty good.

As I look at the camp roster and what’s coming for the blue line in the next several years, it is so exciting. Johansson should be challenging for a job next season. Lidstrom was singing his praises this past summer as he spent last season keeping a close eye on the defenseman. Edvinsson could well report to Grand Rapids at 19 like Seider did. Oesterle may end up being a very good pick up. All of a sudden the left side is going to get younger, taller and faster with each passing year. Seider, Hronek and Stecher are already an encouraging right side with Lindstrom ready to rotate in (or possibly play left side). Yzerman’s makeover continues to impress.

I will post the video stream for camp tomorrow around noon (that’s when it’s live). Lots going on, and it feels good. I hope you’re enjoying the updates from the SHL. Elmer Soderblom played a season high 9:25 in this one. He logged one shot on goal and was a -1. It’s encouraging to see him gaining ice time. I’d like to see more shots out of the big man. Honestly, he projects as a 4th line guy at this point, but he’s shown some slick hands at the WJC. I hope he can earn a North American spot next season.
