Team Previews will continue tomorrow with “Why the Vancouver Canucks Will Win the Cup” but today, we have some serious rumors to discuss….And that ALWAYS takes my priority…

Sabres make a very strange move…

Today Jack Eichel failed his team physical, which only puts the surgery battle into an even higher gear. For Jack to play by the rules and get a paycheck he had to take the physical….and that has happened…All that was expected…

But then, in a move that is somewhat baffling, the Sabres stripped their captain of his C. Ok, sure, a trade does feel inevitable, but why make this move NOW? What can possibly be gained by this at this point? The Sabres don’t play a regular season game for another month and why make a contentious situation even worse. The Sabres are making it clear that they are moving on, but doing so in such a public manner feels driven more by emotion than reason..

The Sabres are asking way too much for a player with this hanging over his head. To get value they should have gotten him back on the ice after the surgery his doctors advised, and let him show he can play…But their actions today just killed their chances of that and will likely mean they have to take far less.

Eichel trade talks tide now to surgery…

Word is Eichel’s agent Pat Brisson is looking for a team who will allow him to have the surgery his doctors are advising and the player wants….There are teams interested still, but one of those teams told me they are srtarting to get the impression that Brisson and the Sabres may do this auction style and set an absolute deadline in an attempt to get the most..The removal of the Captain C does point towards that sort of direction..

Canucks Players Contracts Close…

I am hearing rumors today that Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes, both also represented by Pat Brisson, are close to signing bridge deals. What kind off deal is still uncertain, but one source told me they could be not too dissimilar to the one signed by Rasmus Dahlin in Buffalo. That deal was a 3 year, 9 million per contract…

Either way, the expectation is the Canucks will announce BOTH contracts in a joint Press Conference.
