Quick Hits: Sept. 2, 2021

1) The Flyers wrapped up their 2021 Development Camp yesterday with a 3-on-3 half-rink tournament involving three teams. The tourney was won by Team Orange, which defeated Team White in the final game, 3-2. For a recap of the final day of camp and profiles of Elliot Desnoyers, Connor McClennon, Owen McLaughlin and camp invite Jackson van de Leest, click here.

Tyson Foerster of Team Orange led all players in the scrimmage with five goals and six points overall, including the overtime winning goal in the play-in against Team Black and the tournament winning goal in the finale. Team Black's Isaac Ratcliffe scored three times in Team Black's 7-3 win over Team Orange in the second game of the round robin.

For Team White, Morgan Frost had regulation (final game) and shootout (opener against Team Black) goals as well as an assist on a McClennon goal. McClennon finished the day with two regulation goals and the winning shootout goal in the opener. Team Black's Linus Sandin scored a total of three regulation goals and one shootout goal.

Other multi-point days were enjoyed by Team White's J-R Avon (two goals against Team Orange during the round-robin) and Team Black defenseman Ethan Samson.

2) Per Flyers assistant general manager Brent Flahr, most of the attendees at Development Camp, will also be part of the organization's Rookie Camp in a few weeks. The two exceptions are NCAA-track draftee Owen McLaughlin (2021 seventh round) and undrafted invitee Boston Buckberger, who need to keep their collegiate hockey eligibility for the 2022-23 season. The unaffiliated invitees at Development Camp who will also take part in Rookie Camp are as follows: forwards J-R Avon, Ethan Burroughs, and Nolan Ritchie along with defensemen Quinn Schmiemann and Jackson van de Leest.

3) Sept. 2 Flyers Alumni birthdays: Michel Belhumeur (1949), Paul Guay (1963), Petr Hubacek (1979).

4) September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Last year, Annalise Schultz, the nine-year-old granddaughter of Flyers Hall of Famer Dave "the Hammer" Schultz, passed away from a rare and insidious form of pediatric brain cancer called diffuse midline glioma. In her lasting memory, Annalise's father, Chad, and brother, Sebastian, are participating in the 2021 Parkway Run and Walk for the benefit of Children's Hospital.

Sebastian has set a fundraising goal of $3,000 for CHOP. He's about $500 away from reaching it: Donate here.
