5 Way Too Early Bold Predictions Sure To Go Wrong

Happy September everyone! I am back from a much-needed end-of-summer vacation. Played a little golf. Enjoyed a little sun and now I'm back and ready for the NHL and the Colorado Avalanche to get back to work.

Once the calendar changes from August to September it signifies the end of the summer and the start of pumpkin spice season and it also means we can start making some NHL way too early predictions that will most certainly go wrong. Everybody does it and nows my turn.

But, before I do that let me catch you up on all the Avalanche news and notes since my last blog... okay done. There was no news. Nothing happened.

Let's begin.

- Cale Makar will lead NHL defensemen in points and walk away with his first career Norris Trophy at the age of 24. Over the last two seasons, Makar has averaged nearly a point-per-game. His pace will slow a bit but I predict he will finish with at least 70 points by the season's end. Good enough to bring home the hardware.

- Nathan Mackinnon will finally crack the elusive 50-goal and 100 point mark, but will not win the Art Ross or Rocket Richard Trophy. He will however be in line for the Hart Trophy.

- Tyson Jost will have a bigger role on the team this season and will be rewarded with a true breakout season with career highs in goals, assists, and points.

- Darcy Kuemper has received Vezina votes in two of the last three seasons. With a new team in front of him, he will have another Vezina quality season and win at least 35 games. His regular-season success will carry over into the postseason where he leads the Avs on a long playoff run.

- The Avalanche will not win the President's Trophy but they will at the very least reach the Conference Finals for the first time in 20 seasons.

- BONUS: Nazim Kadri gets traded at some point in the season. Colorado will look to rid itself of any Gong Show antics prior to the postseason.

I may do this again as we get closer to the season when we at least know the final make-up of the roster. These were the easy way to early bold predictions. Maybe next time I'll get crazier and predict Kiefer Sherwood to score 40 goals after a position change to defenseman or something like that. Wouldn't that be wild?

Anyway, I want to hear some of your predictions leading up t the season. Which player has a breakout season? Who is the biggest disappointment? Who doesn't finish the season in Colorado?

Let 'er rip...

Thanks for reading,
Steve
