While we didn’t expect the Anaheim Ducks to make any major additions this offseason, they’ve been one of the quietest teams in the league so far.
Now, training camp is now only a little over a month away and it appears as though the team is going to head back into next season with largely the same roster, having made almost no progress towards rebuilding.
This is a team that clearly needs to make some moves. They’ll almost surely be back at the bottom of the Pacific Division next season and nothing is going to change that. Obviously, buying isn’t the way to go and the Ducks need to kickstart their rebuild.
I can understand the argument for wanting to make sure the team is getting a good return for any player they’re going to trade off. But the value of many of their key trade chips is not increasing, namely Josh Manson and Rickard Rakell. We’ve known for a little while that trading both players was the right move, but as the term remaining on each of their contracts continues to decrease, so does their trade value.
The team also has over $14 million in cap space right now, but has yet to be active and do anything with it. They haven’t taken on bad contracts and don’t seem to have any sense of urgency to actually change their position as an organization. I’ll bring up the Arizona Coyotes for the second time this offseason. They’ve done more to actively build for the future in the last few weeks than the Ducks have done in over a year.
Maybe Anaheim does make some major moves before the start of the season and the lack of activity so far this offseason means nothing. But right now, the organization is continuing to tread water, with their only key way of rebuilding coming through their first-round pick each year.
The Ducks are sitting on key assets and a massive amount of cap space, but continue to remain silent. The longer the organization waits to take steps towards a full rebuild, the longer the process is going to take.

Do you think the Ducks should be making more moves this offseason to build for the future?
