When I first heard the Canadiens were in on Eichel, I have to admit I didn’t take it too seriously given the other teams involved. I was getting the sense that this was Minnesota or the NY Rangers game to lose. If I was asked to guess now, I would put the Wild at the head of the class.

However, the more people I talk to, the more I am getting how Montreal is indeed a big player in this and how the Habs are not at all afraid to put some serious names into the ring…It is absolutely true Kotkaniemi and Suzuki are part of the Eichel talks and it is not impossible that BOTH would be in the deal if it happens.. The Canadiens are VERY much wanting to make this splash.

As one source said, “It has been a very long time since the Habs have had a legit generational player and ownership feels that the time is now to take this opportunity.”

The feeling is the Canadiens young players value will never be higher after this last run and as we saw with the odd management of some of these players in the playoffs, the Habs don’t have a ton of confidence in their youth… Montreal is also not afraid of trading in the division.

We’re I Buffalo, I would be terrified to put Eichel in Montreal..
