The Los Angeles Kings selected defenseman Brandt Clarke with the eighth-overall pick last night.

Clarke spent the season playing in Slovakia’s highest professional league, where he scored five goals and 15 points in 26 games. The year prior, Clarke scored an impressive 38 points in 57 games with the Barrie Colts in just his rookie OHL season.

While the Kings are perhaps more in need of left-side defensemen, Clarke was likely the best player available at eighth overall. He projects as a top-four defenseman with high offensive upside.
