The Seattle Kraken are reportedly expected to select forward Morgan Geekie from the Carolina Hurricanes in tonight’s Expansion Draft, according to Pierre LeBrun.

Geekie played 36 games with the Hurricanes this season, scoring three goals and nine points in 36 games. He’s still just 23 years old and could be a strong bottom-six forward for the foreseeable future. Geekie recently signed a one-year contract extension, which carries a $750,000 cap hit.

It’s surprising that the Kraken chose to select Geekie, over both Jake Bean and Nino Niederreiter. While losing Geekie is unfortunate, as I do think he could’ve been a long-term fit in Carolina, there were bigger targets available for Seattle and I don’t think the Hurricanes will be too upset with this outcome.
