According to reporter
Frank Seravalli
, the Seattle Kraken will be selecting forward Jared McCann from the Toronto Maple Leafs in the expansion draft on Wednesday night.

The Leafs acquired McCann from the Pittsburgh Penguins for forward Filip Hallander and a 2023 seventh round pick on Saturday, which means that they lost a prospect and low pick in the expansion draft over forward Alex Kerfoot and defenseman Travis Dermott.

This in no way means that Kerfoot or Dermott will be on the roster when training camp opens in September. Leafs GM Kyle Dubas may move the 26-year-old forward after his signing bonus is paid (if it wasn’t paid on July 1), since he will only be owed the league minimum $750,000 for next season with a $3.5 million cap hit.

That fact could make Kerfoot extremely attractive to teams like Arizona, New Jersey or Detroit looking to get to the cap floor next season by spending the least amount of money. Dermott signed a two-year, $3 million deal earlier this month, but with youngster Rasmus Sandin pushing for playing time, it could mean that the 24-year-old blueliner may be expendable.
