We are finally here everyone! The Seattle Expansion Draft happens tonight. Tomorrow we will have the makings of a roster to discuss. I will be updating this blog throughout the day as rumours and rumblings happen and then I will be live blogging all of the picks. It's going to be a fun day!

A reminder I am doing a contest for picking the right Expansion Team. You can see the details for that blog here

Things are already well in motion for Seattle as it looks like they have come to agreements with two excellent defensive defensemen. Frank Serevalli was the one to announce that the Kraken had come to an agreement with pending UFA from the Edmonton Oilers, Adam Larsson. Larsson is 28 years old and a right shot defenseman who plays heavy minutes against the top opposition. He is physical and excels at using his body to separate players from the puck and is rarely ever caught out of position. The deal appears to be a four year deal worth 4 million a season.

The other is not official but it looks like Seattle has also reached out to Jamie Oleksiak to offer him a contract as well. Oleksiak plays a similar game to Larsson and while I believe Larsson is a better true defender, Oleksiak has a bit of a mean streak and has a bit more offensive ability to his game. Oleksiak is also a whooping 6'7 and 255lbs.

An Oleksiak and Larsson defensive pairing would be a fantastic option to put against any teams top guys and arguably could be one of the strongest purely defensive pairings in the NHL. A reminder that these do count as Seattle's picks from these teams.

I will update more as the day goes on. Happy Expansion Day!

BLOG UPDATES:

Well it might take some of the fun out of the day but as always there are plenty of leaks and rumblings about who will or will not be taken. Here is what I have so far.

- The Kraken will reportedly not be selecting Carey Price. Even if they could retain some salary and deal him it could be a really tough hassle. Good of Seattle to avoid this one.

- While it seemed likely that Tarasenko was going to Seattle it's now looking far more likely that it will be defenseman Vince Dunn.

- I wonder what kind of remembrance video they will do for Jared McCann in Toronto next season. McCann looks to be Seattle's pick from Toronto

- Looks like Yanni Gourde is the guy Seattle has the most interest in from Seattle

- Ditto for Brandon Tanev in Pittsburgh
