Expansion drafts seem to be the fault in Kekalainen’s stars. Maybe it’s just not their thing, to plan out who could be snatched or moved. The Columbus Blue Jackets have let it become official around the hockey world that Max Domi is up for grabs at the cost of nothing, if your team name is the Seattle Kraken.

Max Domi was acquired by Columbus less than one year ago from the Montreal Canadiens with a third round draft selection in exchange for Josh Anderson, who helped guide his new squad to the Stanley Cup Finals.

This move by the brass shows concern of scouting and planning as this screams resemblance to the William Karlsson situation with the Vegas Golden Knights 2017 Expansion Draft. A young center man who is approaching his prime years being left for the taking, that could still become a top six center in the league with the right opportunity.

The biggest worry with Seattle and the league is the salary cap, and Domi carries a $5.3M dollar contract, but only for one year. He has grit and scoring touches that can help Seattle contend in the Pacific Divison, and would be a fan favorite given his family history in the league.

If taken, Columbus gains the cap space, but the ever pressing need of a number one center since the Laine trade earlier this year. The market could become saturated with centers, with names like Jack Eichel; Evgney Kuznetsov; and Phillip Danault in the rumor mill.

Cam Johnson

The Columbus Blue Jackets have extended goaltender Cam Johnson to a one year, two-way contract at league minimum. Johnson is expected to be the Monsters’ backup behind Danil Tasarov.

Hero #80

It has now come out that Elvis Merzlikins and his wife and son witnessed the firework tragedy that took the life of Mattis Kivlenieks on July 4, 2021. Merzlikins spoke at the memorial about how he died a hero.

“He saved my son, he saved my wife, and he saved me."

Elvis also said his son will be named Mattis in his honor, as he and his wife are expecting their second child later this year.

What is your view of the Blue Jackets?

More coming in a hurry...
