The Carolina Hurricanes clinched a playoff spot yesterday, after picking up a point in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Dallas Stars.

This marks the first time in which Carolina has qualified for the playoffs in three straight seasons. So far, only four teams in the league have clinched a spot.

The Hurricanes have eight games remaining in the season and currently sit in first place in the East Division. In terms of a first round opponent, things are still pretty up in the air. As of now, we can essentially narrow it down to either the Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers, Nashville Predators or Tampa Bay Lightning. The remaining regular season games will be crucial to determine seeding and ensure the Hurricanes have the most favourable matchup possible.
