With the Los Angeles Kings in a rebuild, the team has continued to integrate young players into the lineup.

Heading into the year, the Kings had several forwards who would be fighting to establish themselves, with the likes of Martin Frk, Carl Grundstrom and even Matt Luff and Lias Andersson. But a standout for the Kings this season has been Trevor Moore.

Moore has played in every game this year and continues to earn more responsibility as the season goes on. A major benefit with Moore is that he’s able to play just about anywhere in the lineup. He’s skilled enough to contribute, with good speed and agility, but is still very effective in the bottom-six, based on his work ethic and forecheck. Moore is also able to kill penalties, averaging more than a minute per game on the penalty kill.

In terms of production, Moore has scored eight goals and 19 points in 45 games this season, a pace of 15 goals and 35 points per 82 games. He’s also done it with a shooting percentage of 10.7 per cent, which should be relatively sustainable. Another good sign is that Moore has also boosted his shots per game average from 1.43 last season to 1.67 this year, while his shot attempts per game average has jumped from 2.38 to 2.84.

Considering Moore is still just 26 years old, he’ll have quite a few good years left and I’m hopeful that he’s with the Kings for quite a few seasons to come. While the Kings will have many prospects make the jump to the NHL over the next few years, Moore has proven that he could be a fit with the Kings going forward.
