Right now, the Canadiens hold the 4th and final playoffs sport in the North Division but their lead has melted lately. 4 little points separate to 2 teams and even with 3 games in hand, the Habs won’t have an easy journey to the Spring Dance.

Here’s the breakdown of how many games the have left against which team and their record against said team:

Calgary: 4 games left – 1-4-0
Edmonton: 4 games left – 4-1-0
Ottawa: 4 games left- 4-2-2
Toronto: 4 games left- 2-3-1
Vancouver: 0 game left- 7-0-2
Winnipeg: 1 game left- 2-3-3

It’s fair to say that the Canadiens didn’t have the number of many teams, they dominated Vancouver and have somehow managed to contain McDavid and Draisaitl, but what are the odds that they’ll be able to do it again for 4 games?

At the other of the spectrum, the Flames have owned the Canadiens so far and if that trend continues, the Habs’ lead in 4th place could melt faster than an ice cream on a scorcher of a day. The CH has also struggled against Winnipeg who they’ll only meat once more and have had mitigated results against the Sens against who they still have 3 games.

Meanwhile, here’s what the Flames are looking at in their 14 remaining games:

Edmonton: 3 games left, 3-4-0
Montreal: 4 games left, 4-1-0
Ottawa:2 games left, 2-5-1
Toronto: 0 games left, 3-5-1
Vancouver: 4 games left, 4-2-0
Winnipeg: 1 game left, 4-5-0

Surprisingly, Calgary has had trouble with Ottawa so even though, this is the worst team of the division, they’ve been helping out the Habs a lot this season. As for Edmonton and Winnipeg, it’s pretty much 50-50 so the Flames won’t have an easy time for those 4 games.

They have however dominated the Canadiens, who are quite frankly a hot mess right now and the Canucks, who have just gotten over Covid (if they have). J.T. Miller came out yesterday and said it was unreasonable from the league to expect the Canucks to be ready to play after a single practice and a short morning skate. They’ve been an easy pray for the Flames so far, and they should be just that again.

The maths is easy, the Canadiens have got 4 games left against the only team they’ve dominated aside from the Canucks while the Flames have got 8 games remaining against their favourite foes. So yes, the Flames’ calendar is more favourable but, the Canadiens still have their destiny in their own hands if they find a way to solve Calgary, starting tomorrow.
