The Toronto Maple Leafs have gone all-in as GM Kyle Dubas indicated he would, trading three draft picks in a deal to acquire winger Nick Foligno from the Columbus Blue Jackets and winger Stefan Noesen from the San Jose Sharks. The three-way deal involved the Sharks to be the middle man to fit Foligno under the cap.

The 33-year-old Foligno has 16 points (7 goals, 9 assists) 42 games with the Blue Jackets this season and Noesen, 28, has split his 2020-21 season between the San Jose Sharks and San Jose Barracuda (AHL).

Columbus receives Toronto’s first-round selection in 2021 and Toronto’s fourth round selection in 2022, while San Jose receives Toronto’s fourth round selection in 2021. As part of the deal, Columbus will retain 50 percent of Foligno’s contract, while San Jose will retain 50 percent of Foligno’s remaining contract, which means that his cap hit will be $1.375 million.
