Before I open this blog I wanted to take a moment to share my own thoughts on Walter Gretzky. The entire hockey world mourned the loss of a great Canadian and an even better man in Walter Gretzky. Walter was far more than just the father of The Great One. Wayne throughout his career constantly praised his dad for how he helped coach and prepare him for the NHL and through his career. Walter helped out with a variety of events, charities, and always had time to say hello and introduce himself.

Walter was far more than a hockey dad... he was THE hockey dad. He will be missed and remembered by millions of people.

Tonight the Edmonton Oilers will do their best to honour his memory in another bout of the Battle of Alberta. The Oilers are coming off of an abysmal three game series against the Leafs where they managed only a single goal. The Flames meanwhile alternated between blowing out and getting blown out by the Ottawa Senators and then fired Geoff Ward, hiring Darryl Sutter in his place.

Sutter will not be behind the bench tonight as he needs to pass COVID protocol but once he is back he will begin to instil his level of work ethic onto the Flames. Whether or not that will bring positive change remains to be seen.

Calgary will certainly be frustrated that their lacklustre play resulted in their coach being fired while Edmonton is frustrated by their most recent performance. Both teams should be looking to come out hard which could give us the close back and forth game fans have been wanting.

I will aim to post line combinations once they have been confirmed.

4 GAME THOUGHTS

1.) Score Goals -
For three straight games the Maple Leafs effectively shut down what had been the Oilers dominant offense. Tonight Edmonton needs to come out strong and get the top players rolling once again.

2.) Score Goals - Seriously the Oilers need to score some goals.

3.) Score Goals - It's Calgary and if the Oilers get shut out again fans are going to lose it.

4.) Score Goals - Scoring against Calgary is just so satisfying and after the last three games fans really need this.
