The Carolina Hurricanes will look for their fourth straight win tonight against Detroit Red Wings, coming off a 4-2 win over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.

The Hurricanes had a strong game overall against the Predators, controlling the majority of the play for the first two periods. They did take their foot off the gas a bit in the third period but James Reimer was there to bail out the team late in the game.

Some notes: It was great to see Steven Lorentz’s first NHL goal. He’s a hard worker and could potentially find himself a permanent spot on the fourth line next season. Next, Martin Necas is having a great year offensively but he can still be pretty unreliable in his own end. Every once in a while, he makes a terrible pass in the defensive zone to a dangerous area and gives the other team an excellent chance. As for defenders, when Jake Gardiner is back, I really wouldn’t mind seeing Brady Skjei as the defenseman sitting out. I don’t know how much of an upgrade Gardiner would really be but so far, he’s been much better than Skjei in both ends this season.

Tonight, the Hurricanes face the Red Wings, who are tied with the Ottawa Senators for the worst points percentage in the league. The Hurricanes and Red Wings have met twice this season, in what were Carolina’s first two games of the season, splitting the series. Teuvo Teravainen is expected to return and play with Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov, while Alex Nedeljkovic is likely to start.
