Despite the loss, there was something exciting worth noting– Isac Lundestrom picked up his first career hat trick. Lundestrom looked great and probably could’ve even had another goal or two, based on the chances he was getting.
However, there are obviously some negatives. The Ducks didn’t really get going until the third period, where they were able to get close to tying the game. They had an especially rough second period, which saw them give up three goals to go down 4-1.
Additionally, after a great start to the season, John Gibson’s play lately has been a pretty big issue. Anaheim’s defense has been better since the beginning of the season and Gibson isn't coming up with the saves the Ducks need from him. In his last six games, he holds an .871 save percentage and hasn’t registered a .900 save percentage in a single one of those games.
We’re verging on the point of no return for Anaheim this year, with the halfway mark of the season drawing closer and the Ducks slipping further down the standings. With the trade deadline under six weeks away as well, we should probably start talking about who’s safe and who is not. We know the goal was for the team to be competitive this year but they’re simply not at that point right now.
