Gagner’s hat trick combined with another standout performance by Bernier helped Detroit split the last 2 game series with Nashville. Glendening and Erne both scored on second effort shots, the kind of traffic this team needs to be creating. Glenny from his knees swatting his own rebound, and Erne on a 3 man rush potting a rebound. It was good to see.

For Detroit to find their first win against Chicago, it’s going to take another miraculous effort in goal. The offense will have to be clicking. And, for Pete’s sake, make the power play work. They need to stay out of the box as Chicago still has a power play that’s in a league of its own.

It looks as though Svechnikov will be in tonight. For his sake, he has to make an impression. At the very least he can’t be a liability. The opportunity for the first round pick is getting close to an end. It’s not fair, to be sure, to put so much pressure on him. But, that’s pro sports. Evgeni is one of the nicest human beings you’ll ever meet. Hard worker, looks out for his teammates. His injury derailment has been discouraging for him and the organization.

Since this is the first game of the series, it may be a tough watch. Detroit just can’t seem to hang with a surprising Chicago team. They are an offense machine. To turn the tables, Detroit will have to get behind the defense and spend significant time on the attack. We’ll see how it goes.
