Wild Calling All Abled Bodies

Off to Colorado for the back half of the home and home four game series between the Wild and Avalanche. Saturday was a lopsided Avalanche victory in which they dictated the pace and flow of the game from the outset en route to the 5-1 convincing victory.

Minnesota responded well on Sunday with a severely depleted lineup they managed to pull off an inspiring 4-3 overtime victory. That was fueled largely by the goaltending efforts of Cam Talbot who kept the Wild in the game with timely and acrobatic saves at key times throughout the contest.

Victor Rask scored two goals and the taxi squad of Kyle Rau, Luke Johnson, and Gerry Mayhew provided energy to the lineup. That team inspired effort will be necessary if the Wild intend on taking points in Colorado as well.

Kevin Fiala will once again be out serving the final game of his 3-game suspension tonight. Marcus Foligno remains out on the COVID-19 list, while Marcus Johansson and Matt Dumba are both out due to injury.

For Colorado, Nathan MacKinnon, is out and listed as week to week after he left Sunday's game in St. Paul, with a lower body injury.

Colorado is a very deep team and they can overcome injuries a little better than most teams across the NHL, but there is no replacing a guy with the talent level of Nathan MacKinnon. He is one of the top two or three talents in the league and that is just not replaced, period.

With MacKinnon out there is a bit of leveling the playing field, however it is still heavily tilted in the Avalanche favor.

Sunday's game showed us that the Wild can dig deep and despite the cards stacked heavily against them, they responded. Can they do it again, this time on enemy ice?

It's always Hockey Day in The State of Hockey!
