Quick Hits: January 12, 2021

1) After an off-day on Monday following Sunday's intersquad game at the Wells Fargo Center, the Flyers will reconvene on the ice at the Skate Zone in Voorhees today (11:30 a.m. ET) to prepare for Wednesday night's opening game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The team will announce its opening night roster, taxi squad and assignments for American Hockey League and/or junior league players.

On Monday, to prepare for the roster announcements and in compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreement regulations, the Flyers placed the following non-entry level contract players on waivers: Samuel Morin, Derrick Pouliot, Alex Lyon, Andy Andreoff, Chris Bigras, Tyler Wotherspoon and Nate Prosser. While waivers can be unpredictable, all of these players are expected to clear today and be assigned either to the taxi squad or to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

2) Today, Tim Saunders, Jim Jackson, Steve Coates and I will record the season preview edition of Broadcasters' Roundtable for the Flyers Broadcast Network. Additionally, last night, Jason Myrtetus and I recorded an end-of-camp edition of Flyers Daily, sharing our thoughts on who stood out at training camp and the areas of the team we feel are the strongest and what questions remain to be answered.

3) On the Flyers' official website, we have been doing a seven-part series called "Rivals in Focus", looking at each of the other teams in the Eastern Division. Each article examines the opposing team's roster strengths and concerns, runs through the season series schedule against the Flyers and then retraces the history of the Flyers' rivalry with that club. Today, ahead of the season opener, we will examine the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Already posted: the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders and New York Rangers. A look at the Washington Capitals will complete the series. The Washington article will run after the Flyers play the Penguins back-to-back at home tomorrow and Friday.

4) On this week's edition of the Nasty Knuckles podcast on YouTube, Flyers right winger Jakub Voracek is the guest of co-hosts Derek Settlemyre and Riley Cote. This episode is the most entertaining edition of the show to date!
