In preparation for the season, the Devils have placed 5 players on waivers:
F Nick Merkley

F Ben Street

F Brandon Gignac

D Colton White

D Josh Jacobs

Of the list, which I mostly expected, the biggest surprise is Nick Merkley.

Merkley has been regarded as a highly rated prospect till injuries have taken a toll. I was expecting Merkley to challenge for a spot in the lineup.

Most importantly, what does this mean?

Does he get claimed on the wire wire? I, sure, would give him a chance but the team that claims Merkley will face a similar challenge. Who to drop.

He just isn't up to the Devils expectations and plans. meaning, other prospects have a much higher ceiling in the near future than Merkley.

Or do the Devils hope he clears and be a part of taxi squad? I think this is the hope.

Remember, placing a player on wavers doesn't necessarily mean they have given up on a player. It could also be a strategy and I do believe this is the case with timing before tomorrow's 5pm deadline.

Truly yours.
