Quick Hits: November 20, 2020

1) Cam York notched a power play assist for his fifth point (1g, 4a) of the season to date in Michigan's 5-2 win over host Wisconsin in a marquee Big Ten matchup on Thursday night. After a scoreless first period, Michigan's three-goal outburst in the second period proved to be the difference in the game. York has recorded points in all three games the Wolverines have played to date. The Wolverines and Badgers rematch on Friday.

2) Elliot Desnoyers' second period wrapup around goal on Wednesday cut a 4-1 deficit in half for the Halifax Mooseheads but his team went down to a 5-3 defeat. The goal was Desnoyers' 12th of the season, and his assist in the third period gave him 24 points through 15 regular season games.

3) Flyers Hall of Fame Week: Here's an update and directory on where to find all current and upcoming content during Flyers Hall of Fame week on the team's official website and on Flyers Broadcast Network.

* Today's edition Flyers Daily features an update from Jason Myrtetus and me on the NHL's return-to-play status, including the NHL asking the NHLPA to accept an additional 13% salary deferment for the 2020-21 season and the prospects of getting the season going by January 1. In the second segment, Flyers Hall of Fame center Rod Brind'Amour discusses his Flyers playing days.

* Yesterday on the Flyers official website, I examined Simon Gagne's case for future Flyers Hall of Fame induction. Back in May of this year, Zack Hill arranged a media conference call with Gagne, who reflected on playing junior hockey in Quebec under Alain Vigneault, his playing career with the Flyers and what he's doing now. The quotes for the article were culled from that discussion.

* Yesterday afternoon, Jason and I recorded a 45-minute interview with Flyers Hall of Fame defenseman Mark Howe (my all-time favorite hockey player). Any conversation with Mark is not only highly insightful and candid, it's also an education on the game of hockey. Speaking after the recording yesterday, Jason and I both agreed that the time with Mark flew by and we'd have loved to keep going. I think hockey fans in general -- and not just Flyers fans and those who watched Howe play -- will really enjoy his commentary on playing defense and the elements that make up good chemistry between teammates and a winning team environment. The man knows of what he speaks. The podcast will air on Monday.

* The next article in the "Case for..." series of prospective Flyers Hall of Famers will look at Mark Recchi, who is already an inductee in the Hockey Hall of Fame but is not yet in the Flyers' team Hall despite playing more games for Philadelphia than he did for any other NHL team, winning three Bobby Clarke Trophies, being a member both of the team's 50-goal club (six players, five of whom are in the team Hall) and 100-point club (six members, with all but Recchi and the still-active Claude Giroux in the team Hall), and hold the all-time single season franchise point record with 123 points in 1992-93.

* Later this morning, Jason and I will interview Hockey Hall of Fame and Flyers Hall of Fame left winger and former Jack Adams Award winner Bill Barber for an episode of Flyers Daily that will run next week.

* ICYMI: The 50-minute conversation that Jason and I had for Flyers Daily with former team captain and Flyers Hall of Fame inductee Dave Poulin can be accessed here. Also, the first article in the "Case for..." series, which looked at the Flyers Hall of Fame candidacy of two-stint power forward Rick Tocchet and has his Flyers Daily interview clickable within the feature story, is here.

* Before we conclude our Flyers Hall of Fame series on FBN and the website, we are planning to have an episode related to the Legion of Doom era.

4) Speaking of FBN, later today, Brian Smith and I will record the next episode of Prospect Pipeline, updating the status of Flyers prospects who are/ are not playing during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and for the remainder of the 2020-21 hockey calendar.

5) Today in Flyers History: Hextall Becomes Flyers Winningest Goalie (Nov. 20, 1998)

On this night 22 years ago, the Flyers recorded a 3-1 road win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Victorious goaltender Ron Hextall turned back 18 of 19 shots, and flirted with a shutout for 50-plus minutes. Dan McGillis, Petr Svoboda and Colin Forbes scored for the Flyers.

Hextall earned the 233rd regular season win of his two-stint Flyers career, moving past Hockey Hall of Famer and fellow two-stint Flyers goalie Bernie Parent for the most wins in franchise history.

For his regular season career with three teams, Hextall posted a 296-214-69 record and a 2.97 goals against. As a Flyer, he had a 240-172-58 record with a 2.91 GAA and .895 save percentage.

A member of the Flyers Hall of Fame, Hextall still holds the Flyers record for wins (296) and games played as a goaltender (489). Thirty-seven of Hextall's career wins came during his Vezina Trophy-winning rookie season of 1986-87. He would also record 31 wins twice (1995-96, 1996-97) and 30 wins twice (1987-88 and 1988-89) as a Flyer.

6) Nov. 20: The late Yanick Dupre was born on this day in 1972.
