Happy Friday everyone and welcome to another episode of I take the players near and dear to your hearts. Today we will tackle the Edmonton Oilers.

Originally I planned to ask the Oilers blogger Sean Maloughney to do this list but unfortunately we are currently having a bit of a dispute and are no longer on speaking terms. I won't bother getting into the whole debate but it boiled down to him calling me out for being a hack and I retorted telling him he isn't nearly as funny as he thinks he is.

Luckily enough we have Oilers fan and regular commenter Reveen here to show us his list.

Thank you for the list!

I was certainly taken a bit aback after receiving this list due to the notable omission of Oilers defenceman Oscar Klefbom. If there is a plan moving forward for Klefbom, it isn't being revealed or leaked by anyone close to the team. For those not famiiliar with the situation, Klefbom appears to be suffering from arthritis and some other ailments from his surgeries and may not be in a position where he is able to play again.

Here are the notable names left off that are worth looking at.

James Neal: The 33 year old already has gone through an Expansion process and while his cap hit, age, and skill level are suspect now, there is some value in bringing in a player who can help others navigate the highs and lows of an Expansion Franchse.

Zack Kassian: The 29 year old winger earned a gravy position, playing in the top six with Connor McDavid. Brings speed, physicality and a decent set of hands to a lineup. Consistency is an issue.

Oscar Klefbom: A top pairing defender and when healthy is the Oilers best defenceman. Plays regularly against elite competition, was the point man on the NHL's best powerplay and strong in his own zone. Injury history and current health are massive question marks.

SEATTLE SELECTS...

Oscar Klefbom

What will we know about Oscar Klefbom six months from now? Not having that information makes this selection difficult, however if Seattle can acquire a healthy Klefbom than this is an easy pick. In addition to only be 27 years old, Klefbom is also on a ridiculously team friendly contract of 4.167 million until the start of the 23/24 season. He should still be well within his prime and perhaps taking a year off and returning will allow some of his naysayers to eat crow.
