Penguins October scare

I have to say it is really weird having late October disguising itself as early August on the hockey calendar. The Penguins would probably have played at least nine or ten games by now and there would be games to talk about. Right now, there are no roster moves or games to discuss. Weird indeed.

So while I am grasping at straws I saw this yesterday

Rob Rossi of The Athletic linked Dale Tallon to the Penguins the other day and a report like this opens the door wide open for teams to make it think he is OK to hire. This of course assumes Tallon is even good at his job aside from the racial investigation.

I can’t stress enough how on brand this would be for the Penguins to hire Tallon. They seem to be dead set on doing the most uninspiring things the past few years. The Jack Johnson signing was one of these moments. After he was bought out the jokes all shifted to Cody Ceci being signed by the Penguins. Well, they didn’t disappoint on that front. He’s a Penguin. This would be another one of those situations. Adding somebody you know isn’t up to the task for reasons unknown.

There isn’t a lot of experience in the front office right now. Trevor Daley is newly minted and has no front office experience. Jason Karmanos was the last of the regime from when Rutherford took over. Gone are Jason Botterill, Tom Fitzgerald, and Bill Guerin. Either Rutherford is going to try and do everything on his own, which isn’t ideal. Or, he is going to hire somebody with experience ie Dale Tallon

Admit it you know the chances are way greater than zero. Maybe, the team will even scare the fan base with an announcement tomorrow.
