DALLAS STARS PROTECTION LIST

FORWARDS

Tyler Seguin (NMC) - C
Jamie Benn (NMC) - LW
Alexander Radulov (NMC) - RW
Denis Gurianov - LW
Radek Faksa - C
Joe Pavelski - RW
Roope Hintz - C

DEFENSE

Esa Lindell - LD
John Klingberg - RD
Miro Heiskanen - RD

GOALIE

Ben Bishop (NMC)

Between the NMC’s and their player’s set to hit UFA in 2021 it isn’t super difficult for someone who isn’t an avid follower of the team to decide who to protect.

At forward Cogliano and Comeau are expected to become free agents leaving the only notable player exposed to be Jason Dickinson who I don’t feel is any better than the players I did decide to keep.

I entertained the idea of exposing Pavelski due to his age and cap hit but right now the stars are set to have over 20 million in cap space for the 2021 off-season so if they decide to go big game hunting in free agency next year they should still have enough room to do so.

No surprises on defence here as the stars have in my opinion a top 10 D core in the league thanks to these three.

Unfortunately Khudobin is left exposed due to Bishop’s NMC

Thanks so much for the writeup!

The Stars have a number of player set to be UFA next season so the options are slimmer to pick from. Here are my notables.

Jason Dickinson: The 25 year old is capable of playing both the left and right side and has dabbled a bit at centre as well. Had a career high 9 goals and 21 points this past season through 65 games. Is an RFA next season.

Andrej Sekera:
Solid puck moving defender who was once a solid top four option but is now much more suited as a veteran third pair option. Was a favourite in Edmonton prior to dealing with some tough injuries.

Anton Khudobin: The goalie which helped push the Stars to the Stanley Cup Final. Posted brilliant numbers through the post season and stole a bunch of games but doesn't get enough credit for his 0.930 SV% through 30 regular season games as well.

SEATTLE SELECTS.....

Anton Khudobin

Seattle is going to need a veteran goalie who can stand tall in front of a team that is going to have issues scoring. Over the past three seasons of all goalies who have logged at least 3000 minutes (roughly 70 games), Khudobin ranks first with a 0.934SV% at even strength. That includes his time in Boston and Dallas, a total of 102 games.

At 34 years old there is of course going to be worry about his age but look at what Fleury has been for Vegas these past few years. What makes Khudobin even more appealing is his contract, which if Seattle selects him would be 2 years at 3.33 million per season.
