Player Name: T.J. Oshie
Position: RW/C
Age: 33
Current contract: Five years left on 8 Year/$5.75million per year deal. UFA in 2025-2026
2019-2020 Regular Season Stats: 26-23-49 IN 69 Games Played (.71 points per game)
2019-2020 Post Season Stats: 3-0-3 in 8 GP

T.J. Oshie once again had a spectacular year for the Washington Capitals! Here is where Oshie ranked on the team for all major statistical categories:

Points: 49 points, ranked 6th
Goals: 26 goals, ranked 2nd
Assists: 23 assists, ranked 5th
Power Play Goals: 10 PPG, ranked 2nd
Shooting %: 19.5%, ranked 1st
Game Winning Goals: 4 GWG, ranked 4th
Shootout Goals: 4 goals, ranked 1st

At the age of 33, Oshie still continues to produce and shows little signs of slowing down. His production in the shootout is invaluable in my opinion. Regular season final standings always come down to a point or two. Oshie has the 11th best shootout percentage of all time at 51.7%. His consistency almost always positions the Capitals to win shootouts and again those points are so crucial down the stretch. He was 4 for 8 on the shootout this season.

Oshie was drafted in 2005. Of all the players drafted that year, Oshie ranked 1st of all players with 26 goals. 2nd was Anze Kopitar with 21 and 3rd was James Neal with 19. He ranked 2nd in points this season behind Kopitar. Kopitar had a stellar year with 62 points, well ahead of T.J’s 49. While Oshie is slowly aging, he continues to produce and produces at a high level relative to peers around the same age.

Oshie was voted as “Last Man In” for the All Star Game this year. He also scored a goal that weekend. Congrats!

Oshie is a great franchise player. There are some rumors that he may be left available in the Seattle expansion draft. The Capitals can protect seven forwards and I honestly do not know who they would protect over Oshie. If they do not protect Oshie, it will be purely a financial decision. Oshie is due $5.75million per year for five more years. He will be 39 in the final year of his deal. It is only a matter of time before his production declines so the Capitals might try and get ahead of it to clear up some cap space for some of the young talent that will be due pay raises soon.

All in all, it was a productive year for T.J!
