Quick Hits: Sept. 24, 2020

1) Over the years, I have learned to get in the habit of writing HockeyBuzz blogs in other programs (either Word or as emails to myself) because the on-site content management system does not have a mechanism for saving drafts in the event of either needing to close them out and come back later to finish it or in the event of a computer glitch or end-user mistake. Once in awhile, though, I bypass the precautionary step and regret it.

Earlier today, I was 99 percent of the way through a blog with sections on Brian Elliott, Tyler Pitlick, Wade Allison and today being one year to the day since the Flyers placed Nicolas Aube-Kubel on waivers (comparing his clearing the next day with the cases of Danick Martel being claimed by Tampa Bay two seasons ago and Jordan Weal clearing in 2016). Unfortunately, I stupidly shut down my blog draft in the next-to-last paragraph. Went into my history, restored HockeyBuzz but got a blank blog template. That was a very reminder to always do the blog draft elsewhere on the computer and then cut and paste once finished.

At any rate, because none of the topics are immediately time-sensitive, the lost sections will be re-written for upcoming blogs when there's no news-related content to write or analyze.

2) On loan to Czech Extraliga team HC Karlovy Vary during the current NHL/AHL off-season, Flyers/Phantoms right winger David Kase has posted three points (0g, 2a) over the club's first two games of the 2020-21 regular season. Unfortunately, the team's game today was postponed after several players and staff members took ill. A Covid-19 outbreak on the team is feared but unconfirmed as of now.

3) Upcoming on the Flyers' official website: An Inside the Numbers breakdown of the Flyers team GAA, team GPG, and special teams, looking deeper into why the team improved significantly in the 2019-20 regular season after poor-to-middling performance in 2018-19 and why the Flyers backslid in some key indicators during the playoffs.

4) On Friday, Jason Myrtetus and I will interview Flyers assistant general manager Brent Flahr regarding the 2020 NHL Draft. I am planning a related feature article on the Flyers site, while Jason will air the interview in its entirety for Flyers Daily on the Flyers Broadcast Network. Next week on Flyers Daily, Jason will have exclusive one-on-one interviews with Flyers scouts Mark Greig, Nick Patrick, and Joakim Grundberg.
