But what we saw from Demko in the playoffs has made things all the more interesting in the trading market. There are enough goalies available to stock an entire new conference of teams, but how many impact goalies are there?
The Canucks are talking to Markstrom, who was their best player and MVP, about a new contract. And that contract is believed to be several seasons which would put Demko squarely in the backup role for the apparent future. However, due to his spectacular play against the Vegas Knights, Demko's value WILL likely never be higher.
As you may all remember, I wrote a story many moons ago about how much I believed Demko would eventually be one of the best goalies in the NHL. I didn't feel the Canucks saw it that way, and it was hard to argue against what Markstrom was bringing.
There is no question Demko's play helped Benning on two fronts:
1. This allows them to be negotiating from a stronger spot with Markstrom
2. This allows them to find out who is willing to pay what for Demko
Who is interested?
It sounds like the conversation starts with Toronto. I am told Thatcher is their top option, but how much will Demko's three games make his price tough to pay?
How far are they willing to go for their future goalie?
The Hurricanes and interestingly active Sabres are also coming up in the Demko conversation...
World Juniors to be Played in Edmonton Bubble
There is news breaking at this hour about everyone's favorite Christmas tradition, the World Juniors....It sounds like professional Bubble City, Edmonton, will be hosting the tournament. This is great news for sure.
Brayden Point "doubtful."
The "Never say Die-landers" will try and extend tonight...and I am hearing Point is likely out. That will make things VERY intriguing when you remember Trotz gets the lat change tonight. I am feeling game 7 if there is no Point tonight.
