Future of the Jackets

Hello Jackets fans (and Lightning fans as your blogger may have gone AWOL) welcome to a brief look into the crystal ball and what we may see out of this team in the very near future.

First lets talk 3-1 series deficit.

Technically it's not over. After last season's embarrassing first round exit, I don't believe that the TBL has it in them to lose 3 straight. Prove me wrong Jackets. Columbus was buzzing that first period, however that goal being called back was critical. These Jackets need to play with a lead. But, it was the right call, they were offside.

This is what everyone thought they would see last playoff season when these two teams met. The Lightning coaches and players seem better prepared this time around. Credit to them for learning from their failures.

Columbus could take tomorrow's game to force a 6th game and I think that is important for the growth and experience of the younger players and the cohesiveness of the team in general. If they manage to get to a Game 7 (highly unlikely) it is anyone's call.

Future Looks Bright

I have been banging the drum that the Jackets need scoring all season. It is evident...to everyone. But Foudy, Texier and Bjork may be the answer in the next few seasons. Dubois has proven he can carry play and scoring from the blue liners is a great weapon for this team.

Goalie problem has been solved...well sort of. What Columbus has is a good problem at the goalie position. They have two guys capable of being the starter. This is good for competition, each pushing the other to be better. It is also great insurance in case of an injury, like we saw with Korpi this season and Elvis in the playoffs.

Being well under the cap also allows the Jackets to sign the RFAs and explore adding a piece in free agency. They don't have to make a big splash, but another piece like Gus would go a long way to solving the scoring woes.

In conclusion, I believe this team has a good plan. They have found their way into the playoffs four years consecutively. They have a good core of players. While they do not play a flashy game, teams don't like to match up against them.

With age catching up with WAS I think this division is up for grabs in the years to come. PHI will certainly be a favorite to take the crown, but maybe we will see the Jackets challenge.
