Every article, I try to include a poll question for readers to vote on, then review the results from the week’s polls every weekend. I’m a day late, but here are last week’s poll results and my thoughts on how they turned out.

QUESTION: Would you rather see the Hurricanes:

(Votes: 84)

Beat the Rangers and advance to the first round of the playoffs: 65%
Lose and have a 12.5% chance at Alexis Lafreniere: 35%

The Rangers are going to be a tough test but if the Hurricanes can get by them, they can certainly make a deep playoff run. They’re a strong enough team to bet on them having playoff success, rather than just betting on a chance at the first-overall pick.

QUESTION: Do you think Nino Niederreiter could be effective if playing in the top-six for the playoffs?

(Votes: 59)

Yes: 66%
No: 34%

I think Niederreiter certainly can be effective, it’s a matter of whether or not he’ll actually be able to go out and perform. We’ve seen how well he can produce for the Hurricanes but that didn’t happen this season. Regardless, he’s Carolina’s best bet to round out the top-six.

QUESTION: How much less confident do you feel in Carolina’s defense without Brett Pesce?

(Votes: 82)

Slightly less confident: 51%
Much less confident: 32%
No different: 17%

I think I'm feeling slightly less confident as well. Pesce is a loss for sure but it’s manageable. It certainly helps that the Hurricanes bulked up their blue line at the deadline, it just would've been nice for Skjei and Vatanen to be able to get more comfortable playing with the team before the season was paused.
