No get out of jail free cards for real or arm chair general managers

Bad news for all the arm chair and real general managers out there. It is likely you will not be given a get out of jail free card like you may have thought with the new CBA. Compliance buyouts are not looking like they are going to be on the table.

#JackJohnson2023 is a reality, not that the Penguins have ever used a compliance buyout. The only times the Penguins got creative with cap hits was when they had Vegas retain money in the Derrick Brassard three-way trade, when they absorbed some of Rob Scuderi’s contract when he was traded for Trevor Daley, and in 2018-19 they retained a small portion of Carl Hagelin’s contract.

I think the news of no compliance buyouts impacts fans ability to roster build rather than the actual Penguins. The Penguins are still in decent shape. Now a team like the Sharks? Yeah, this is going to hurt them with a contract like Marc-Edouard Vlasic on the books until 2027. There are plenty of other examples around the league. Apparently, those teams are stuck. Back to the drawing board.
