Happy Canada Day to my many friends up north. I really and truly miss visiting you all up there and I can't wait to return to the Great White North when the world starts to turn again...

Two things this morning...

Canada may indeed save hockey!

I have been saying this for a while now, but the NHL is really nervous about Vegas and now Bob McKenzie is reporting what I've been hearing for a while now...The two host cities may indeed be BOTH Canadian, as Edmonton and Toronto are the new favorites. The NHL just feels the areas are safer and the cities aren't showing the dangerous signs we are seeing in the States as the virus has begun its second wave...It will be interesting to see if the other sports will be able to happen in the States...

It should be UFA Day....

In honor of Canada Day, we need to talk about UFA's. After all, this day is synonymous with the opening of Free Agent season, and it only feels right to talk about the players we would be discussing today had Covid not moved in....I am hearing the NHL's new UFA Day is looking to be November 1, after the Cup and Draft happen in October....

So here we go with my top UFAs for 2020, and what I am hearing so far...

#1 Taylor Hall.
Hall had a rough season, but the former MVP is still highly sought after, and still is a force to be reckoned with....The Coyotes getting a chance to play in the playoffs gives Hall a real second lease on life. He will have a good shot at raising his market value. All signs are that Hall wants to do a Tavares and return home...to Calgary...This is not 100% though as I expect other offers and you can be sure Calgary needs to do a lot to make this happen...Other teams interested will be the Sabres, Islanders and Avalanche...I would also expect Arizona to make a pitch...

#2. Alex Pietrangelo

The Blues have said all the right things, but they have also made alot of moves to prepare for the possibility that their captain will walk. It can be expected that he will want in the $9M range...The Devils, Columbus, Florida, Toronto and Montreal have all been rumored...I expect the Blues get it done....about 70%

#3. Torey Krug

The Bruins would like to keep Krug, but his value has honestly never been higher... The Oilers, Coyotes and Kings could put in major plays for Krug...

#4. Mike Hoffman

Hoffman wont return to Florida, but he is considered a great get.. AsI have written the Montreal Canadiens are targeting Hoffman...The Islanders, Wild, Kings and Jets have all expressed interest as well...

#5. Robin Lehner

He is on Vegas now....remember? I have heard the Hawks, who moved him to Vegas, talked to him about possibly returning this summer as a UFA. It was a great fit. The Canes, Sharks and Flames are also interested....

Coming up in my next blog....UFATBs #6-10
