Coyotes Have Shot at #1 Pick Thanks to Ridiculous NHL Rules

Only the NHL would have a draft lottery that features a chance that a Team to be Determined could win.

Like, what in the blue ______ is going on with this league?

You haven't played in three months, and you have an absolute lay-up: one team gets to celebrate getting the #1 pick (Alexis Lafreniere) and everyone is pretty happy about actual hockey news.

But not the NHL. They can't get anything right.

Need a hub city? Well you have access to cities in Canada where there is almost no trace of the disease, but hey why not Las Vegas, the choice you'd make if you were an idiot and trying to _____it up on purpose?

Nobody would have said anything if the league made it so the #1 draft pick went to a team that wasn't in the playoffs - I mean, that's exactly how these things are supposed to work.

But instead, there is a scenario where a hot goalie on an underdog next month makes it so Lafreniere ends up on one of the NHL's best teams (the Leafs) or on a team that already has two of the league's best players (Edmonton).

It is preposterous.

Not as preposterous as planning a comeback in the middle of a pandemic and not making sure your players were far, far away from places like Arizona or Florida, but still unbelievably stupid.

Then again, this is the league that allows bare knuckle boxing, insists that the first seven cross checks to the neck were not a penalty, and has different amounts of points available in regular season games.

But OK. The point here is the Coyotes could lose to the Predators (odds are good) then have a 12.5% chance of picking first overall. Not too shabby.
