It's not just the hockey community that needs to take a look in the mirror; it's our entire human population.
I'm not going to have a long rant about how we should all have the mindset of equality for all (even though we should) but I felt compelled to say something.
All I will say is this; I don't know what it's like to be black. I was born into this world as a white male which granted me instant privilege. And even though I was raised in a community that didn't offer a lot of diversity, as I made my way through college and working in Canada's most diverse city in Toronto, I have always tried to treat everyone in my travels with the utmost equality.
I will continue to do so but I will be louder about it as I think we all need to speak up more. I am guilty of not being as active as I could be and I will aim to be more supportive on this blog, in my other writing, and on social media.
