The tragic passing of Colby Cave this week from complications of a brain bleed and now this morning we learn of former Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback, Tarvaris Jackson was in a car accident overnight in Tennessee.

We wish we were talking about sports and on the field and ice competition, rather than tragedy of of it.

We as a sports community are very loyal to our teams and the players that don their uniforms. It is times like this that we put our allegiances aside and draw together in community to grieve the loss and help the healing begin.

Cave was just 25 with seemingly his whole life in front of him. His young wife, Emily, a widow before their first wedding anniversary is something that is almost unfathomable. Our hearts and prayers go out to Emily and the family as they try to piece things together and go on with life without Colby.

At the end of the day hockey is a game and it teaches us a lot about life and how to deal with the challenges and adversity that comes with it. That said nothing really prepares anyone for the tragic loss of life of one so young and seemingly full of life one moment and gone the next.

Life is very precious and we hear it all too often to not take it for granted because it all can be gone in an instant without warning.

Tarvaris Jackson was drafted by the Vikings in the 2nd round in 2006 and was the starting quarterback leading the team to the NFC North title in 2008, before stepping back into a backup role when Brett Favre was signed in 2009.

Jackson spent 10 years in the NFL and does have a Superbowl ring. Winning that as Russell Wilson's backup in 2013 for Suberbowl XLVIII where Jackson finished out the game in a mop up series in the 43-8 route of the Broncos.

Jackson was the quarterbacks coach for Tennessee State at the time of his passing.

Tragic losses indeed. Heartfelt support and prayers go out to both Colby Cave's and Tarvaris Jackson's families.

It is a time of social distancing as we all are well aware, but let's all do our part to stay as close to our loved ones as we possibly can. keep them close and treasure every moment as they are precious.

Stay safe and hug your loved ones!!!
