This piece will be another in my series of player profiles, where I’ll give some thoughts on the performance of a member of the Carolina Hurricanes this season. This article will focus on Warren Foegele.

Foegele took a huge step in his development this season with the Hurricanes. He had a larger role this year, finishing seventh in ice time at even strength among Carolina’s forward group. He averaged 12:34 per game at even strength, which is up about a minute and a half from his 11:06 at even strength last year that had him ranked 11th among Hurricanes’ forwards. Once again, he spent a bit of time penalty killing as well.

Foegele’s increase in production this year was pretty significant. He jumped from 15 points in 77 games last year all the way up to 13 goals and 30 points in 68 games. He was on pace to hit the 15-goal mark and score about 36 points.

Between Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov and Teuvo Teravainen, as well as Martin Necas and Foegele, the Hurricanes have built an excellent group of young forwards who can be with the team for many years to come. I don’t know that Foegele will ever become a legitimate top-six forward but he could certainly slot in nicely on the third line long-term. Hopefully, Foegele continues to develop at the same pace and becomes an important part of Carolina’s secondary scoring going forward.

Check back tomorrow for a player profile on Jake Gardiner.
