Are you a fan of Bob’s Burgers? A quirky, bizarre show that almost didn’t make it to air because, originally, the family was written in as cannibals. Cannibals running a hamburger shop. Yeah, not a good look. A few tweaks later and the show is going strong. All of this was brought to mind by an episode featuring Gene (above) at his first sleepover. He hates every minute of it. In hoping for a respite as his host family sits to watch a movie Gene asks, “is this movie PG”? Hoping for some good news to which his friend Alex replies, “only if PG stands for poop garbage”. And there you have it. A much more fitting ratings system for what we are seeing on the ice.

Parental guidance may well be necessary as well. Kids dreaming of the NHL may be best to avoid the soul crushing shame of the on ice products. Seeing Dylan Larkin disgusted just about takes the cake. That kid has given everything he has to see a record breaking awful season. Insult to injury saw Jack Hughes, all 85 pounds of him, cripple Robby Fabbri with a knee on knee hit. Yes, Hughes was upset about earlier mistreatment, etc. it’s brutal to watch.

I do not blame the players. There is an absolute void of leadership. Similar to a compass directing a ship into a storm, the players are doing their jobs. The way has not been plotted in any sort of working fashion. And, as bad as New Jersey felt about themselves, they embarrassed Detroit.

Small signs of life, spurts of physicality, but it melts back into a sort of eye glazed catatonic state. But, they still go back out there. Akin to the folklore of the “whirling dervish” warriors, said to be able to engage in combat even after they were “dead”. Essentially a zombie army able to terrify people with greater numbers due to their relentless disposition. Very much the feeling of what the “brawl” with 43 seconds left. A zombie army trying to fight on.

The good of it, the team finally seemed to care. The bad of it, why did it take Bertuzzi getting a stick to the mouth to wake up. It’s an absolute crisis of culture, and the next coach has his hands full. I have about as much faith in the current hockey process as I do in the authenticity of McDonald’s food processes. It seems fake, and it will probably end up killing you. But, the fries are still good.

PK Subban, always there when it’s way too late to be effective. His challenging Bertuzzi, just after a stick to the head, was ridiculous. The entire end was just an exclamation point on an absolute sham the real losers here are the fans.

Yzerman was asked yesterday if he was concerned about having 18 contracts expiring and he said he wasn’t. The GM is more than happy waiting. Meaning, no one has impressed him enough to force the issue. Guys are going to be cut loose.

The post game focused much more on the Wings “sticking up” for each other. Of course I’ll take it, but it would be nice to see them care as much before puck drop. The effort was, at times, disgusting. The team is clearly in shock and there is no one currently wearing a suit that seems to be able to help them out of it. That’s only my opinion, not reflective of what the organization may feel.

We’ll see how much goes into the next game. Detroit faces off against Ottawa, another bottom feeding team at this point. It would be good to see more of an effort.

Let me know how you feel. Am I being too hard on the coaches? Leave your mark.
