Last night, the Habs sent Kovalchuk to Washington for a 3rd round pick and he just spoke to the media. In short he said the following:

-Bergevin could have sent him elsewhere for a better offer but he asked him where he wanted to go and he was happy to go to Washington.

-He said this is not goodbye and he will definitely check in with Montreal this summer when he's a free agent.

-He loved playing in Montreal and says that free agents should definitely consider Montreal as a destination as it is one of the best places to play in. Calls coming to play here the best decision he made.

-On Claude Julien: he's an up front guy. He will tell you what he thinks about you to your face be it good or bad. He's grateful that he was given all the best opportunities in Montreal, 1st line time, 1st power play.

-He believes the guys will carry on pushing forward to reach the playoffs and will not give up.

The RDS guys are intrigued by the fact that Kovalchuk said Bergevin could have had a better return but chose to send him to Washington as per his wishes and the fact that he said this was not goodbye. They are already claiming that a deal may be in place. Personally, I do not believe it.

Nate Thompson

Uncle Nate is now on his way to Philadelphia in return for a 5th round pick at the 2021 draft. No one should be surprised here, a depth centre on an expiring deal who can bring a solid dose of leadership. Philadelphia just got better and the Habs' youngsters will miss the vet but such is the business...

Thompson says he loved his time in Montreal, the guys, the team...it's bittersweet but he's happy to go and have a chance to make the playoffs.

Matthew Peca
Matthew Peca to Ottawa for a 7th round pick and Luchuck (who will report to Laval). Nothing to write home about here, Peca's biggest impact on this team was his playing the piano in the holiday video.

Nick Cousins

And Bergevin finished his day of work by sending Nick Cousins to Vegas.

Just watching the post mortem with Bergevin now, blog about it to come later tonight.
