Trade deadline day is finally here and the Calgary Flames, despite all the ups and downs, are holding onto a playoff spot.
GM Brad Treliving will certainly be as active as he can to try and bolster the chances of that remaining the case come April.
Buying expensive rentals is certainly not the best idea but, if there is term, I think Treliving can justify getting his group some help; especially considering how they’ve stayed afloat without key blueliners Mark Giordano and Travis Hamonic.
The Flames continue to be linked with top-6 forwards signed beyond this season. I think Kyle Palmieri is the big one but it would take quite the package to pry him from New Jersey.
If not Palmieri, I expect the Flames to bring in somebody else who can help boost the offense.
TSN’s Frank Seravalli suggested as much when he mentioned (on Trade Centre) the Flames as one of the teams most likely to pull off a significant move prior to this afternoon’s deadline.
Whether that happens remains to be seen but, at the very least, I expect them to add a cheaper rental like Vladdy Namestnikov or Wayne Simmonds.
