After spending most of the season without injuries to any critical members of the team, the Edmonton Oilers continue to get all their bad luck in one big pile. The club announced on Tuesday that defenseman Oscar Klefbom will be out the next 2-3 weeks with a shoulder injury. Oscar played against the Hurricanes, a team leading 30:57 and in overtime as well.

As best as I can gather, there didn't appear to be anything specific in that game that caused this so we might be looking at something that has lingered for some time that the player is getting taken care of now.

Klefbom has been and continues to be the Oilers top defenseman, playing the most minutes, being the most effective against top competition and plays on the top PP unit in the league that is putting up some near historic numbers. Needless to say this is a hefty loss for the team.

With Russell still in concussion protocol, this likely means we see Caleb Jones get a bump onto a pairing with Adam Larsson and William Lagesson put alongside Matt Benning.

This entire season has been about the Oilers prospects, maturing into impact players before our eyes. Ethan Bear was the first and has helped to solidify the right side D for Edmonton and Jones has continued to improve and look confident next to Matt Benning. Giving Jones more ice time and putting Lagesson into the lineup is the next step of development for these potential long time Oilers.

McDavid, Kassian, Neal, Nygard, Klefbom, and Kris Russell are the Oilers injured. If the team can continue to play the system that won them games against Carolina and Florida and play at .500 or better, it will make it all the sweeter when some of these guys get back into the lineup.

I will post more updates if anything else drops today.
