The Rangers, for the first time since November 23-27, have won three straight games. Thursday was a gut-check victory, rallying from 3-1 down after two periods to defeat the Wild 4-3 in a shootout. Alexandar Georgiev shut the door in the third and Pavel Buchnevich plus Mika Zibanejad tallied in that frame to tie the game. New York completes their three-game road trip by taking on Columbus on Friday.

Game recap:

Condensed game:

A few thoughts:
1) I thought Georgiev played a pretty good game. The first goal, a backhand by Ryan Donato, went off Brady Skjei. The third goal was a beautiful deflection by Jordan Greenway, in front of his college coach, David Quinn, who fended off Skjei, seeing a pattern here in his return to his home state, in front of the crease. Georgiev, starting the first of the back-to-back with Igor Shesterkin dealing with the ankle he injured Tuesday, was solid in the win, his 13th of the season. His big save might have been stoning Ryan Donato on a breakaway in the third. If Shesterkin can't go tomorrow, look for Henrik Lundqvist to be between the pipes.

2) Artemi Panarin had his 29th goal, an assist and the one in the shootout. His goal was a snipe from the left circle. The assist was on the game-tying marker, following a lazy clear by Minnesota and good keep at the line. But his hard pass into the slot was deflected by Zib, aided by Alex Stalock leaning a bit, for the goal. In the shootout, the Rangers got a break when the NHL said Panarin was moving forward on the attempt. Here is my view and the goal:

3) Good challenge by Quinn, who improved to 2-2 on them this season. HIs challenge for goaltender interference was upheld on review, overturning the goal. That reversal ended up being huge in the win.

4) Buch continues to produce. His goal came in the dirty area, bouncing off a pair of Wild skaters, making the score at the time 3-2. Mr. Happy, or Soft, depending on your view, has five goals and four apples in his last nine games. Seven of those points have come 5v5 and Buchnevich is up to 12 markers and 23 assists on the season.

5) Tony DeAngelo suffered a shoulder injury on a check late in the third. He was unable to be on the ice after New York pulled Georgiev. But DeAngelo, who had a beautiful cross-ice pass to Panarin for his goal, was on the ice the first 31 seconds in the overtime and should be good to go tomorrow.

6) Brendan Smith skated alongside Tony Deangelo in place of Marc Staal, who missed the game with the flu. Smith was a healthy scratch the prior four games but played 17:35 of solid hockey in the win. If Staal is out tomorrow, look for Smith to be in the lineup again.

7) After getting outshot 11-8 in the first, New York outshot Minnesota 20-12 the last two periods. The overtime was even in shots at three. Jacob Trouba was robbed by Stalock with a beautiful glove save while Georgiev stoned Kevin Fiala, who has amazing hands.

Zack Kassian should be suspended at least five and maybe 10 games or more for this:
