GAME 57: FLYERS @ ISLANDERS

In the third match of a crucial stretch of four games in six nights, Alain Vigneault's Philadelphia Flyers (31-18-7 overall, 12-13-3 away) are in Brooklyn on Tuesday to take on Barry Trotz's New York Islanders (32-16-6 overall, 17-7-4 home). Game time at Barclays Center is 7:00 p.m. ET.

The game will be televised on NBCSP. The radio broadcast will be on 97.5 The Fanatic with an online simulcast on the Flyers Radio 24/7 component of the Flyers Broadcast Network.

This is the third of four games this season between the teams, and the second and final game in New York. The Flyers are 0-1-1 thus far against the Islanders. The season series will conclude in Philadelphia on March 24.

On Oct. 27 in Uniondale, the Flyers led early but the Islanders soon took over the game and went on to defeat Philadelphia, 5-3.

On Nov. 16, the Flyers faced a fatigue-factor game. They were playing for the third time in four nights, and the seventh time in 12 nights. The Islanders' meanwhile, were in the midst of one of the lightest portions of their first half schedule, playing just twice in between Nov. 10 to 18. Perhaps not surprisingly, the Flyers ran out of gas in the third period of this game.

Staked to a 3-0 lead with less that 12 minutes left in regulation, the Flyers coughed it up and went to settle for a single point from a 4-3 (2-0) shootout loss. New York extended its point streak at the time to 14 consecutive games.

FLYERS OUTLOOK

Exiting the All-Star break, the Flyers have taken nine of 12 possible points (4-1-1) over their six games. On Monday, the Flyers earned a 4-1 home win against Florida.

Returning from a nine-game absence due to a strained lower right abdominal muscle, Carter Hart made 30 saves in outplaying ex-Flyer Sergei Bobrovsky. The Flyers received goals from Ivan Provorov, James van Riemsdyk, Travis Sanheim and Claude Giroux (SHG, ENG).

Brian Elliott will get the start in goal against the Islanders. Although Joel Farabee is now healthy after a severe bout with the flu last week, Vigneault may not be inclined to make any immediate changes to the lineup after the Flyers defeated Washington and Florida by a combined 11-3 score over the past two games.

Shayne Gostisbehere, who has been working to recover his game conditioning and timing, did not participate in Monday's morning skate. He felt soreness in his arthroscopically repaired knee.

ISLANDERS OUTLOOK

New York, tenuosuly holding onto third place in the Metro is in a points tie with Columbus and one point ahead of the Flyers. The Islanders hold the spot by virtue of having played three fewer games than Columbus as well as two fewer than the Flyers. Both the Blue Jackets (23-21) and Flyers (22-21) hold regulation wins tiebreaker edges on the Islanders.

On Monday, two nights after the Flyers thrashed the Capitals in a 7-2 blowout, the Islanders roared out to a big lead over their hosts in Washington, and went on the claim a 5-3 win.
