Breaking News - Jim Rutherford continues to be a GM that is not shy about making big deals and made the first major move of deadline season acquiring winger Jason Zucker from the Minnesota Wild.

The Pens paid a hefty price in highly touted defensive prospect Calen Addison and a lottery-protected 2020 first round pick, along with the salary dump of Alex Galchenyuk.

Zucker has 29 points this season (15 goals, 14 assists) and should fit in nicely on the wing with either Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin (replacing the injured Jake Guentzel) and has another three years left on his contract at a decent cap hit ($5.5 Million AAV).

Addison was impressive for Team Canada at the 2020 World Junior and might be ready to step into the NHL as soon as next season.

We start today with an important signing when it comes to the Oilers and a signing that also helps to make the Oilers a more intriguing team when it comes to the deadline.

ICYMI, the Oilers have re-signed Darnell Nurse to a two-year deal worth around $5.6 Million Per year.

What this means:

Nurse was slated to be an RFA and didn't have much leverage, however some were predicting a possible holdout if the number was this low...What we see here is a desire by Nurse to stay an Oiler for a long time. This also helps Holland immensely because it is important to show the NHL that good players want to stay in, or even move to, Edmonton...

What Oilers fans are saying...

While Nurse did take less money this deal does lead him right into his first year as a UFA. This is making a lot of fans edgy, but honestly to get Nurse to stay the two years there has to be some shared risk.

I will be back soon with a rumor update and I working on my first buyers/sellers quotient of the season as we race towards the deadline.

Stay tuned...
