My Favorite Player this All Star Weekend Was....

Starting tomorrow the rumors will be flying around here as we launch into the final four weeks before the trade deadline on Monday, February 24th...These next four weeks are my favorite time of the year. Love my job!

But today is time to reflect on the good in this sport that was on display this past weekend in St Louis...And this was an odd All-Star weekend. It felt like so many of the staples weren't in St Louis. No Crosby or Ovechkin, Price or Rask...and many more who either weren't selected or just chose to not go...

That made for a very interesting eclectic group of players...

We did get McDavid, Matthews was there but not playing (classy move by Auston) and we got MacKinnon, Hedman, and superstar to be: Elias Pettersson...

And yet, these kids are all going to be super stars...it is a young man's game.

And yet, one of the best yesterday, AND representing the old school:Patrick Kane...

And how could you NOT love Patrick Kane this weekend. I have always loved Kane, the player, with one notable exception....the last goal of 2010.... too soon?

But to be honest, Kane is a joy to cover and watching him get into it and frankly just "get it" in St Louis was a treat. The guys was playing for the Central Division with all those Blues players, in front a of a fanbase who knows nothing but disdain for him....it was pretty awesome and should stand as an example to the NHLers who feel they are "too good" to take part in what is really a lovefest...

Blues fans are outstanding hockey fans. They have been through it all for over 50 years and it was such a blast to see them finally enjoying a champion last year...But last night it couldn't be overlooked that Kane plays for the Hawks....and St Louis and Chicago are two cities not accustomed to being on the same side in sports..

Kane said it best after the game and said it all with a smile..."To be honest with you, sometimes you get booed, you kind of like it a little bit. It’s St. Louis and Chicago, it’s a huge rivalry. Not only in hockey, but pretty much every other sport they play against each other. I had a lot of fun this weekend and I thought that was a pretty cool moment."

Kane was, of course, asked if he thought about staying home like others of his generation and he said there was no way he would have missed this...who needs the time off when your job is playing hockey for money?

Bless you for that Patrick!

If it weren't for a few magic ping pong balls you would have been wearing orange and black all this time.....and we here in Philly haven't lost that fact....again...2010...

get to bed early tonight kids...plenty to discuss tomorrow!
