Quick Hits: January 25, 2020

1) Flyers right winger Travis Konecny finished seventh in the fastest skater event at the 2020 NHL All-Star Skills competition at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis on Friday night. He posted a time of 14.113 seconds. Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid, who had won this event three straight years, finished second (13.215 seconds) to the New York Islanders' Mathew Barzal (13.175 seconds). Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes (14.263 seconds) finished eighth.

Later in the evening, Konecny scored a goal in the goalie save streak event. Konecny, whose parents are in attendance this weekend for the Skills competition and 3-on-3 NHL All-Star Game tournament, discussed the weekend on NHL.com.

2) Konecny and the rest of Team Metro will take on Team Atlantic in the first of the 3-on-3 games in Saturday's All-Star Game at the Enterprise Center. Game time is at 8:30 p.m. ET. Team Central vs. Team Pacific will start at 9:30 p.m. ET.

3) In addition to several notable Blues Alumni Association players ceremonially participating in the All-Star Skills competition on Friday night, the Blues Alumni Team played against an NHL Alumni Team that featured Flyers Alumni Association president Brad Marsh among the players. Off the ice, the weekend also features the annual NHL Alumni Board and Chapter Presidents meeting.

4) The Lehigh Valley Phantoms' road woes continued on Friday night as they dropped a 4-3 decision to the Providence Bruins, two nights after losing 3-2 (1-0) via shootout to the Bruins.
On Friday, Alex Lyon stopped 32 of 36 shots in a losing cause. Cal O'Reilly had a goal (4th) and an assist, while Mikhail Vorobyev (8th) and Andy Andreoff (power play, 5th) also scored for the Phantoms. David Kase chipped in a pair of assists (6th and 7th) and Morgan Frost (11th assist) set up Andreoff's tip-in goal but was minus-two at even strength.

With the losses on Wednesday and Friday, the Phantoms dropped to an abysmal 4-15-0-3 on the road. At home, the team is 14-5-1-3. On Saturday, the Phantoms pay a visit to the Atlantic Division leading Hartford Wolf Pack (24-10-4-5 overall, 17-1-0-2 home).

5) January 25 birthdays: Current Flyers defenseman Phil Myers celebrates his 23rd birthday. Also celebrating birthdays are Flyers Alumni winger and current Flyers western Canada-based amateur scout Mark Greig (1970) and early 2000s Flyers Alumni winger Paul Ranheim.

6) Today in Flyers History: In keeping with the St. Louis theme of today's blog, on Jan. 25, 1986, Flyers goalie Darren Jensen played the best game of his NHL career in a spectacular 48-save shutout performance against the Blues at the old St. Louis Arena (AKA, the Checkerdome). A mid-first period goal by Flyers defenseman Brad McCrimmon stood up the rest of the way as the Flyers won, 1-0. Greg Millen stopped 33 of 34 Flyers' shots.
