Coyotes 5v5 Player Usage Explains Why they Never Score

It was like the Coyotes wanted to play the most Coyotes game ever.

Hold a high flying team like the Penguins to a single goal, and lose anyways. (Technically it was two goals, but who cares about an empty netter?)

Phil Kessel made an uneventful return to the Igloo and even though he teased us with a two goal game earlier in the week, couldn't find the back of the net.

No one could.

But then again, it was game where you seriously have to question the coaches decision making.

I've never been a Tocchet fan, but this year he's flown under the radar because of the teams' success.

That is to say their entirely 100% goalie dependent success.

Hey Toc, here's a talented player with massive potential who is probably at worst your third most talented players.

Thanks, but I'm good (sits Hayton every game).

Hey Toc, you're best player is returning to his former team, you're down by one and getting shutout.

I got this, (plays Kessel for only 11 minutes 5v5).

Pretty frustrating to be honest. Kessel barely played after scoring 2 goals the other night, and he also put up an 80% CF when he did play, which is kind of good.

Now I do realize that Kessel barely left the ice during power-plays (he played 7 minutes on the PP) but games are won and lost 5v5 and you've got to try to score when you don't have a man advantage.

My personal feeling is that any time you get shutout you should consider if playing Vinnie Hinostroza as your most used forward was the best strategy.

My personal feeling is that you should take a long hard ___ look in the mirror whenever you play Jordan Oesterle more than Phil Kessel or Connor Garland.

I know Nick Schmaltz is occasionally frustrating, but playing him 8 minutes during a 1-0 loss is just stupid.

Honestly, while watching last night's game, I seriously had to ask myself if Tocchet just assumed Raanta would score a goal.
