The Rangers, led by Artemi Panarin and Henrik Lundqvist, defeated the Capitals, who were without Nicklas Backstrom, 4-1 at MSG on Wednesday. New York was solid throughout the contest, benefits from three posts and a crossbar hit, and when a big save was needed, Lundqvist came up big. New York heads up to Canada to face the Senators on Friday and Canadiens on Saturday.

Panarin delivered twice on the man-advantage, aided by a pair of assists by Kaapo Kakko, who has five points his last three games and eight in his last nine contests. The Breadman extended his point streak to 12 with the tallies. in that stretch, he has seven goals and 12 helpers and is up to 11 markers and 14 apples in 19 games played. I would say he is earning his money.

Lundqvist earned win 454, tying him with Curtis Joseph for fifth most wins in NHL history. He is 30 victories behind Ed Belfour for fourth place. Hank can still turn back the clock but the consistency has been lacking this season. If he can string together a few solid efforts in a row, like in the past, that would help cover up the penalty kill woes and defensive lapses.

Buchnevich added a goal and an assist, giving the Russian born winger 17 points in 19 games. The goal came off a nice play with Filip Chytil while the assist was a pretty dish to a wide-open Brett Howden in front of the net. For all the criticism lobbed at Buch, who rode the pine for part of the second period, he is just under a point-per-game pace. The KCB line continues to do damage and needs to remain intact.

Tom Wilson was looking to go with anyone and Brendan Lemieux, who had a very good game overall, noticeable in the offensive zone, was a willing combatant. Lemieux was crushed between Wilson and Alex Ovechkin and took offense to the hit by Wilson, dropping the mitts with the Washington winger with just under three-and-a-half minutes to go in the game. A pretty even, entertaining battle that wasn't staged and arose in the heat of the game.
